Ua Huka is famed as the “Island of Horses“. A world apart from Tahiti and Bora Bora, Ua Huka is a small volcanic island nestled in the rugged Marquesas Islands of French Polynesia. Located between Nuku Hiva, Ua Pou, and Hiva Oa, about 1,400 km northeast of Tahiti, Ua Huka is the fourth largest island in the archipelago. Where to stay in Ua Huka?

Ua Huka offers a range of accommodations to suit every budget, primarily featuring small, family-run Tahitian Guesthouses with restaurant facilities. It’s advisable to book your stay in advance. The island also has a few restaurants where you can enjoy typical Polynesian cuisine. The friendly locals will be happy to recommend the best places to eat and dishes to try.

Getting here and getting around

A four-hour flight from Tahiti-Faa’a airport brings you directly to Ua Huka. Flights from other Marquesas islands take about 25 minutes, and several inter-island ferries are also available. The airport is located some distance from the main villages of Vaipaee, Hane, and Hokatu, and no shuttle service is provided. It’s important to confirm your arrival and departure times with your accommodation, as they will arrange transportation for you. Once on the island, the best ways to get around are on foot, by bike, or by taxi.
