On the lagoon

Encircled by a magnificent coral reef which has 12 passes, Moorea is the perfect destination if you like watersports or if you’re looking for somewhere peaceful to unwind. The two bay areas offer multiple recreational activities. Divers will enjoy themselves in the diverse marine ecosystem thriving within the lagoon. You can also embark on your own adventure, paddling through the bays and soaking in the breathtaking scenery aboard a kayak or paddleboard.

For the more adventurous souls, go on a thrilling deep sea fishing expedition, where you might just reel in one of the ocean’s giants! If you’re keen on contributing to environmental preservation, consider lending a hand to a local association dedicated to replanting and nurturing coral in the lagoon.

On the mountains

The island is a veritable paradise for nature lovers and green tourism devotees. With eight mountains, the island offers a choice of magnificent hiking trails leading to stunning scenic viewpoints. Explore the marae and experience the serene atmosphere surrounding these ancient stone platforms. Once sacred sites for the ancient Polynesians, marae were the venues for religious rituals and significant ceremonies.

There’s a treetop adventure park for adrenaline-seekers, complete with exhilarating ziplines to keep your adrenaline pumping! Thanks to its small size, touring Moorea can be easily done in less than a day, allowing stops to marvel at pineapple plantations to indulge in the island’s sweet fruit delights.

Getting here and getting around

From Tahiti, you have two options to get to Moorea. Firstly, you can travel there by boat, either on a passenger ferry that takes about 45 minutes, or on a rapid shuttle that makes the crossing in just 25 minutes. Both leave from the ferry terminal in Papeete, a short taxi ride from the airport. The second option is to fly to Moorea, which takes 15 minutes from Tahiti-Faa’a airport.

Tahiti and Moorea offer numerous car rental options, as well as bike and motor scooter rentals. For the best rates, it’s recommended to book your vehicle in advance.
