There are no hotels in Tubuai, the administrative capital of the Austral Islands. However, thereare several family-run Tahitian Guesthouses, where you’ll receive a traditional Polynesian welcome and be made to feel perfectly at home.
Slightly off the beaten track, Tubuai is an authentic Polynesian island, where you’ll receive a warm welcome from your hosts, who will be delighted to tell you about their island and its history, and show you the important places to visit. Some accommodation has its own private swimming pool, where you can take a refreshing dip after hiking to the summit of Mount Taitaa. There are also sevral vacation rentals for a more intimate holiday. It is advisable to reserve your accommodation in advance, to benefit from the best tarifs.
