Tupai is often regarded as the world’s most romantic atoll due to its heart shape when viewed from the air, which has earned it the nickname ‘the heart of the ocean‘. According to legend, the atoll was dedicated to Pere, the Polynesian goddess of fire and passion. Located 19 km north of Bora Bora in the Society Islands, Tupai is a true paradise for nature lovers, boasting many endemic species, beautiful white sandy beaches, and a double lagoon.

A unique lagoon and lush greenery

Tupai is renowned for its double lagoon, crystal-clear waters, and stunning white sandy beaches. The atoll is uninhabited and features a lagoon rich with tropical fish, manta rays, and colourful coral, making it ideal for swimming and free diving. Seen from above, Tupai takes the shape of a heart.

The island is covered in coconut palms, and its beaches serve as nesting sites for sea turtles. Visitors can often witness baby turtles hatching and making their way to the sea. Endemic birds, such as the Atoll Fruit Dove and the Polynesian Falcon, are commonly spotted in the island’s vegetation.

Not-to-be-missed

What to do in Tupai?

No one lives on the atoll, so there are no accommodations available. Bring a bottle of champagne, find a spot in the shade, and simply enjoy each other’s company in this idyllic setting.
