Moorea, which is just a 10 minute flight from Tahiti, is one of the most spectacular islands in French Polynesia.
The scenery in Moorea is absolutely breathtaking. There are so many sites to visit when you go on a tour of the island, but here is our selection of the best beaches, swimming spots, hiking trails, scenic viewpoints and cultural sites.
Day 1: part 1
On your first morning, head for the Belvedere viewpoint at Toatea, above Temae Beach near the airport. The view over Tahiti is superb. Then drive down to the white sandy beach for a dip in the turquoise lagoon. Follow your swim with a round of golf at Moorea Green Pearl Golf Course, just a few miles from the beach.
Day 1: part 2
Stop for lunch at a restaurant in Cook’s Bay with a view over the lagoon and the mountains. After lunch, visit the Rotui fruit juice factory to taste the pineapple juice, before going to Ta’ahiamanu beach for the rest of the afternoon, where you’ll be able to enjoy the glorious sunset.
Day 2: part 1
Start the day with a visit to the Opunohu Valley and the Te Fare Natura ecomuseum, where you’ll discover the richness of the biodiversity in French Polynesia. Afterwards, head for the Belvedere viewpoint. On the way you can stop at the marae to learn more about Ma’ohi culture.
Day 2: part 2
Continue on to the Belvedere viewpoint to take photos. The view over Cook’s Bay and Opuhonu Bay and the surrounding mountains is incredible. On the way down, visit the Opuhonu agricultural college for a taste of their homemade ice creams and jams. Go for a stroll in the pineapple plantations.
Day 3: part 1
On this, the last day of your tour, visit to the nortwest of the island and hike to the top of the magic mountain. After taking some more photos, go down to either Tipaniers or Tiahura beach. The water at both is crystal clear and warm and you have superb views across the lagoon to the motu.
Day 3: part 2
On your way back to the airport, stop to visit Tiki Village. You’ll learn much about French Polynesia and its unique ancestral culture. Finish your round island tour with a visit to the ornately splendid Saint Famille Church in the village of Haapiti.
